Volunteer Spotlight: Sidra Soomro

We’re happy to welcome Sidra to our operations team. Sidra will be flexing her skills as a librarian to help us organize and streamline our work starting in February 2017. Please meet Sidra!

Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Sidra, meaning “of the star.” I work as a Library Assistant in Hartford, Connecticut. I hold an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with concentrations in Social Justice and Asian Philosophy.

Why do you think the work of The Exploratory is important?

I’m passionate about helping young women be successful in life. Coming from a traditional Pakistani background in which women have many restrictions, I love seeing young girls and women succeed in life despite their circumstances. This is one of the reasons why I am volunteering with The Exploratory.

What are you hobbies?

I am an avid reader and love to learn. Books and Youtube are my constant companions.  I’m really into Korean dramas, some of my favorites are Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, and Kill Me Heal Me.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

My dream is to be in a higher education setting where I get to work with multi-cultural and minority students and help them excel in college and university.

Again, welcome, Sidra!
